Difference between ANSI X12 and EDIFACT
The difference between these two EDI standards is mainly the geographical location of the users. EDIFACT and ANSI X12 are similar in structure and use for the most part the same message structure, but with often different terminology.
ANSI X12 is commonly used in the United States and North America.
EDIFACT is used by companies in Europe and Asia.

Different names for message types
The name of the message types also differs. Where with the ANSI X12 standard all messages have a 3-digit number, EDIFACT limits the name of the document to 6 letters.
